The Perfectstroke Green Reading Charts can be purchased individually or as a set of three. They are available as one ball marker and one chart for each of green speeds of Medium (Stimp 8-9), Fast (Stimp 10-11), or Tour Fast (Stimp 12-13). There is also an option to purchase the Complete Green Reading Set which includes the Perfectstroke Green Reading Manual as well as as the individual charts and ball markers.
The Perfectstroke Green Reading System is made up of a series of charts that provide information on where to aim based on slope combinations and green speeds. The mathematics behind the system is derived from Science and Motions Sports Ball Tracking System which is able to calculate appropriate aims for putts on green speeds ranging from 8 Stimp through to 14 Stimp. The suggested aims are in degrees and basically regardless of the length of a putt the aim in degrees will stay the same if the slope conditions are able to be measured or estimated as an average.
The Perfectstroke Ball Markers are a set of markers that are able to translate the aim in degrees into a reference that is more manageable and less complicated. There is one ball marker that has indications that provide relevant aims according to the slope conditions for green speeds in the 8 to 9 Stimp range. There is also a marker for green speeds between 10 to 11 Stimp otherwise considered as fast greens and another marker for greens that would be considered as tour fast ant 12 to 13 Stimp.
One side of a Perfectstroke Ball Marker provides indications on where to aim on putts with “PLAYS LIKE” aim up to 4.0% while the other side shows where to aim on severe slopes where the combination of side and down slope as well as the green speed might require an aim of greater than 4.0. On a green speed of 11 Stimp if a player was faced with a putt that had 2.5% of side slope with 3.0% of downslope the aim in degrees would be almost 22 degrees from the hole. This would equate to a ‘PLAYS LIKE” aim of 6.2.
All three of these markers translate an aim in degrees to given slope amounts that create what we call a “PLAYS LIKE AIM”.
On all of our charts this is how the aim is described. If a putt on a green with a speed at 10.5 Stimp was hit from 4 feet,10 feet or 30 feet with a 2.0% side slope only (No down or up slope), the aim would be about 7.0 degrees from the centre of the hole.
If a putt had a 2.0% side slope and a 1.0% downslope it would play like a 2.5% aim but the player would need to allow for it being slightly faster because of the downslope.

The main reason why a putt will break is due to side slope but the amount of down or up slope will also have an effect on the overall break. Putts with side and down slope will break more than putts with just side slope and putts with up slope as well as side slope will break significantly less than one with down slope.
Slopes amounts are measured in percent based on what is known as rise over run. This is the vertical change divided by the horizontal change between two points. Direction is referred to in degree amounts.
In golf putting terms 1.0% slope would be classed as almost flat or perceptable, 2.0% is slight, 3.0% is steep and 4.0% is considered severe. As far as direction goes from a distance of 10 feet or 3.0 metres an amount of 1 degree would be the difference between the centre of a hole and it’s edge.
When players use the Perfectstroke Green Reading Charts and Ball Markers in training mode on a putting practice green or on the course in social play they can improve and build on their experience, knowledge and understanding of slopes and their effects and put that into practice in competitive play. The three Perfectstroke Charts and Ball Markers cannot be used for play in competition but we provide a line only marker that can be used in competitive play. We also have one of our charts in the three different Stimp ranges that is conforming to the Rules of Golf and this is available when purchasing the Perfectstroke Green Reading Manual.
