How It Works

To use the Green Pro Putting Aid, golfers simply select the version that matches the green speed being practiced and position it so the centre (zero) line points directly at the hole. Using a golf ball marked with an alignment line, the player then aligns the ball according to the recommended aim point derived from the measured slope and the Green Reading Chart.

For example, on a Stimp 10 green with a combination of 2% side slope and 2% downhill slope, the system indicates an aim point of approximately 10.5 degrees from the centre of the hole, corresponding to a plays-like slope of 3%. This aim angle remains consistent regardless of putt length, allowing golfers to better understand the relationship between green contours and starting lines.

For even greater precision, the Green Pro Putting Putting Aid can be used in conjunction with a digital spirit level, helping players accurately measure slopes while accelerating the development of advanced green-reading skills.

The Green Pro can be positioned at virtually any distance from the hole and secured in place using tees, allowing golfers to repeatedly hit putts from a specific location while receiving consistent feedback on their chosen start line and green read. For a more realistic on-course type training experience, golfers can also move to different locations around the hole, encountering a variety of distances, slopes, and break scenarios. By simply aiming the Green Pro’s centre line directly at the hole, players can assess the slope, determine their own read, identify the appropriate “Plays Like” slope value, and select their intended starting line before executing the putt. They can then move to another position and repeat the process, creating a dynamic green-reading practice session that closely replicates real playing conditions. Players can fix the Green Pro in position with tees at two of three anchor points if they want to hit putts repeatedly from one spot or they can use the Green Pro to aim the the ball appropriately for any given putt, then remove it when they hit the putt.

It is pretty much necessary for players to use a ball with a line on it to aid in accurately aligning the putter face when using the Green Pro training aid. They should be closely observing if the ball has an initial roll immediately after impact where the ball is running end over end, – the line on the ball should remain upright which identifies if the ball was struck with a putter face where the face was square in relation to the path. If the line is scrambled as the ball begins rolling this is an indication that the face was not square in relation to the path and the start direction will likely have been compromised.

This approach not only improves a golfer’s ability to start putts on the correct line but also develops the critical skill of translating visual slope information into a practical Plays Like read. Over time, players learn to recognise how different slope combinations effect break, speed, and aim points, enabling them to make more accurate green-reading decisions and hole more putts on the course.
